Wascana Solar Co-operative Launches New Share Offering to Power Community Resilience and a Sustainable Future in Southern Saskatchewan
Wascana Solar Co-operative today announced the launch of its third Solar Investment Opportunities share offering, inviting community members and investors to participate in a project that promises both environmental stewardship and financial potential. This initiative pools community resources to accelerate the development of local solar energy projects, reinforcing the Co-operative’s commitment to a sustainable and prosperous future for southern Saskatchewan.
"Investing in solar power with Wascana Solar Co-operative is an investment in the health of our community, our planet, and our portfolios," said Susan Birley, President of Wascana Solar Co-operative. "We exist to help interested community members pool their resources to accelerate the transition to clean, affordable, renewable power, and this new share offering does precisely that."
The new share offering provides an accessible way for individuals to become part-owners of local solar projects. As Wascana Solar Co-operative grows and its projects generate revenue, members who hold shares will be eligible to receive these dividends, offering a tangible return on their commitment to sustainability.
Wascana Solar Co-operative is focused on building robust, clean, and resilient capital through this offering, which is crucial for expanding its operational capacity and developing more impactful solar initiatives. "While our immediate focus is on building a strong capital base to fund our ambitious projects, we are highly confident in our ability to achieve profitability and deliver consistent returns to our shareholders in the long term," Birley said. "Every share purchased helps us lay the groundwork for a future where clean energy is abundant and accessible."
Wascana Solar Co-operative has been championing community-based power since its founding in 2019. By pooling resources, members collectively own and benefit from local energy infrastructure, fostering a stronger, more resilient community. This model ensures that the economic and environmental advantages of solar energy remain within the community, empowering residents to take an active role in a cleaner, more affordable, and more resilient energy future.
Since 2019 Wascana Solar Co-op has:
Produced 302,731 kWh so far through its first Solar Investment Opportunities project, which installed 115 panels on the roof of the Conexus Credit Union North Albert Branch, saving over 600 tonnes of carbon.
Installed an array of 32 solar panels on the roof of one of Regina’s YWCA buildings this year through our second Solar Investment Opportunities project.
Supported the installation of 917 solar panels for 41 individual property owners and counting, through our Solar Way Program, which advises home owners on going solar, for a cumulative system size of more than 350 kW spread across Regina rooftops.
The funds raised from the latest share offering will be directly invested in new solar installations across the region, reducing carbon emissions, creating local jobs, and providing a stable source of clean energy.
